Ever since the title was announced been curious to know what it means, so what is the title all about?
Well donít worry we will define it for you.
Definition: It is a sense that one gets or feels when a disproportionate amalgamation of various film genres likes historic, science fiction, kung fu, action, romance etc combined attacks the audience in a screenplay that titillates intermittently and masquerades as something intelligent only to be finally confounded by its own dumbness.
Whoa, whatís that all about?
Can you not tell us just tell what the film is all about?
Apparently if I am a descendent of Hitler, according to the filmís implied science of DNA and genetics, it would be possible that I could initiate or trigger World War 3.
Repeat the same in layman terms?
Modern day Surya in the film is descendent of Bodhidharma, Pallava king of 5th century also believed to be the founder of Shaoulin arts. The film tells us that through genetic engineering all the Bodhidharma qualities, knowledge and power can be reinstated in the modern Surya as he has the DNA of Bodhidharma.
Thatís sound a bit complicated?
Thatís only a part of it; we also have a Chinese conspiracy thrown in too.
So the film has no entertainment?
The director has tried to incorporate the entertainment aspects too but thatís where the film has faltered.
What do you mean by that?
The director had an interesting premise even if itís complicated but in trying to commercialize it he failed to get the balance right and thereby jeopardized the actual entertaining aspects or the interesting parts of the film by not giving them enough time to explain or focus more on it.
So how is the film overall?
Even if the film is flawed it is a one time watch for sure for its concept. Coming to the actual film it has a solid beginning has nothing till interval picks up pre interval and post interval has few interesting parts but then finally ends abruptly? †As one can guess the film is largely inconsistent and that inconsistency arises due to the commercialization of the film to cater to large number of audience.
How are the performances?
Surya does well as the king Bodhidharma but in the modern part he is under utilized and doesnít bring anything fresh to the part. Shruthi Hasan gets a good role thatís not standard ďonly for songsĒ kind and actually plays a major part in taking the story forward. Coming to the acting she is bland for most of the part but has few nice scenes too at the same time. Among other itís the villain Johnny Tri Nguyen who gets a crowd pleasing part and he does well.
Did Murugadoss live up to expectations?
It is a directorís film all the way and hence the failure too lies on him. The director in trying to commercialize the film has faltered on the screenplay giving importance to many unnecessary things. A.R.Murugadoss known for his effective screenplay this time fails in that.
Other technical crew
Cinematography by Ravi K Chandran is stunning. Action sequences by Peter Heins are over the top. Music by Harris Jayaraj including the background score is a letdown, especially the songs which are neither good to listen to nor are picturized well.
For its theme and the message given itís a good watch once but thatís not a compulsion though.
